Best Replacements for Electromagnetic Chuck Controllers — Neutrofier, Electro-Matic, Neutrol & More
What Replaces an Electro-Matic of Chicago or Neutrofier Controller? Electro-Matic Products Co. of Chicago — the original manufacturer of the Neutrofier, Neutrol, and Minatron electromagnetic chuck controllers — is out of business. Because parts are scarce and repair costs are sky high, the most cost-effective replacement for any Electro-Matic controller is a Braillon iBUE or iBUET series control unit.
Our modern controllers directly replace all legacy Electro-Matic / ELMATCO models. Upgrading to a Braillon unit provides fully automated demagnetization, modern PLC integration, machine interlock, USB programing and a full manufacturer warranty — features impossible to get when repairing 30-year-old technology.

Compatible Machine Types: Blanchard, Mattison, and all other Surface Grinders
Braillon electromagnetic chuck control units are fully compatible with Blanchard rotary surface grinders, Mattison grinders, and all standard surface grinders and milling machines.
Rotary Surface Grinders
Blanchard and Mattison grinders rely on high-wattage electromagnetic chucks. Our iBUET series controllers (up to 6600 Watts) are the ideal modern replacements for all aging electromagnetic chuck controllers.
STANDARD SURFACE GRINDERS
Reciprocating surface grinders from DoAll, ELB, Harig, Brown & Sharpe, Okamoto, and many more. The Braillon iBUET series is the perfect feature-rich replacement for any machine with a magnetic chuck.
MILLING MACHINES AND EDM
For milling machines and sinker EDM equipment, Braillon controllers also support variable force output, allowing precise control of holding power for delicate operations.
UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY
Braillon controllers work with electromagnetic chucks from any manufacturer. If the magnet runs on 110VDC, 115VDC, 220VDC, 240VDC, or even 400VDC, we can control it.
How TO SELECT THE RIGHT magnet CONTROLLER
Selecting the right electromagnetic chuck controller is a critical step — the wrong unit can damage your chuck, reduce holding force, or fail to demagnetize properly. The process involves four key considerations, and Braillon provides free engineering support to help you get it right.

1. Ohm’s law calculator will help you fill in the blank, if you are missing either:
Voltage (V)
Current (I)
Resistance (R).
The law is simply V=IxR.
2. Power Calculator will allow you to calculate the Wattage you are dealing with.
- Watts = Volts x Amps.
3. Now you have all the info you need! JUST pick the correct rectifier for you.
- Example… Chuck =110VDC X 3Amps =330 Watt.
- So, you will need the Model iBUET340.

Why Braillon Electromagnetic Chuck Controllers Outperform Every Legacy Unit
| # | Feature | What It Means for Your Shop |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Operate Different Designs & Brands | One controller runs magnetic chucks and lifting magnets from any manufacturer. Wattage range: 340W to 6,600W. |
| 2 | Total Demagnetization | Demagnetization cycles optimized per chuck type. Up to 10 custom programs saved via USB key. Optional T20 Remote Control for easy program selection at the machine. |
| 3 | Full PLC Machine Interface | Chuck activates, releases, and demagnetizes automatically from your machine’s PLC. Built-in machine interlock prevents cycling if the chuck is not fully energized. |
| 4 | Offsite Remote Assistance | Braillon engineers can remotely diagnose and reconfigure your MC20 controller without a service visit — resolving issues in minutes, not weeks. |
| 5 | Adjustable Settings by USB Key | Configure the unit, save history and error logs, and fine-tune magnetization, residual magnetism, and demagnetization timing — all via USB key, no proprietary software needed. |
| 6 | Control Up to 8 Chucks Simultaneously | The MC20 manages up to 8 electro-permanent magnetic chucks at once — ideal for Blanchard grinder setups and automated production cells. |
ELECTROMAGNETIC CHUCKS
The best replacement for a Neutrofier II (models 17RC3BE-2, 17RC3BE-1, CAV3A-11, CAV3-71A-11) is the Braillon iBUET series controller — a direct modern upgrade with better demagnetization and variable force control.
If we have the spare parts to your particular controller, then we are happy to repair or help point you the right direction. Recently, many customers have been searching for parts or replacements to their Electro-Matic of Chicago controllers. We have been able to help customers that have such control units as the minatron, neutrofier, neutrol, neutrofier ii, neutrofier 2, neutrofier 3, neutrofier iii. We have soltions any other type of control units.
Electromagnetic controllers are responsible for changing AC into DC for electromagnetic chucks. It also allows the operator to use variation of force which controls the strength of the magnetic field that is created by the coils in electromagnetic chucks. This allows the operator to use a potentiometer and precisely adjust the holding force of the electromagnetic chuck.
Electromagnetic chuck control units are expected to work constantly to change AC into DC for the magnetic chuck. If, there is a loss of electricity then it also means no magnetic field is being created by the coils inside the magnetic chuck. In contrast the electro-permanent chuck control unit is only needed during the magnetizing or Demagnetizing of electro-permanent magnetic chuck.
The short answer is yes. The two terms control unit and rectifier are interchangeable. They both take Alternating Current (AC) and turn it into Direct current (DC) for electromagnetic chucks or lifting magnets.
